About Us > The Studio
Our well-lit, purpose-built communal studio is furnished with state-of-the-art equipment – 22 Bailey wheels, a kick wheel, a stainless steel NorthStar extruder and a 7-foot Bailey slab roller. We have several large worktables and counters, color-coded wedging tables, a triple sink, two spray booths with compressed air and excellent ventilation. We provide a full spectrum of Cone 10 studio glazes and oxides. Glazes are tested on multiple clay bodies and samples are clearly displayed. A large work-in-progress damp storage room with shelves is available for both members and students. The steady flow of work from inception to final glazing is encouraged to avoid clogging of shelf space. The kiln room is equipped with 3 gas kilns for reduction firing to Cone 10 - a 24-cubic foot Bailey front-loader, a 36-cubic foot Bailey car-kiln and a 12-cubic foot Geil front-loader. We have one 10-cubic foot and two 12-cubic foot electric kilns for Cone 05 oxidation bisque, low-fire glaze and china paint and gold luster firings.
Secure lockers (1’ x 1’) are available for personal storage for $10 per month. Bring your own lock or one can be purchased from Xiem™ retail store. Clay storage for Premier and Regular members is available on the south side of the walkway adjacent to the studio. Members get permanent storage for two bags of clay.
The studio kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine. The adjacent landscaped patio has a view of the San Gabriel Mountains, conducive to frequent relaxing alfresco breaks.
